The MSA Financial Wellness Score is determined by an 8-question survey that creates a 1–10 well-being score. For anyone who takes the survey, their score reflects what they believe to be their personal financial stress level and overall well-being. Below is more detail for each scoring range:
0 – 4.9 Overwhelming financial stress and very low financial well-being
A score of 4.9 or below indicates overwhelming financial stress and very low financial well-being. A Money Coach can get them back on track with helpful resources, including an action plan tailored to their specific situation.
5.0 – 6.9 Moderate financial stress and financial well-being
People who score anywhere from 5.0 to 6.9 have a moderate level of financial stress and financial well-being. They can take their finances from average to amazing with the help of a Money Coach! A Money Coach can offer education on boosting financial skills.
7.0 – 10 High financial well-being and low financial stress
A score of 7 or higher indicates high financial well-being and low financial stress. Even people with excellent financial wellness can still find room for improvement. They could work with a Money Coach to fine-tune their goals and prepare for any potential challenges in the future so their finances can stay on track.
How is it used?
The MSA Financial Wellness Score can act as an alert for financial difficulties that were previously undetected, or it can confirm a person’s sense of average or high financial well-being. It can also be a simple and tangible way of tracking progress.
People working with a Money Coach take the survey at periodic intervals to see if their stress levels are decreasing and their confidence increasing as they improve their finances.
On average, people who work with a Money Coach see a 90% improvement in their score, indicating significantly greater financial well-being and a reduction in financial stress.*
